Where the time actually goes
A conventional online tool spends its time in four stages: uploading your file, waiting for a worker to pick it up, processing, then downloading the result. On a 10 Mbps upstream connection — typical for home broadband — a 25 MB file takes about twenty seconds just to reach the server, and the same again is spent in reverse if the output is a similar size.
Running locally cuts three of those four stages. Reading a file from your own disk into a browser tab happens at hundreds of megabytes per second, which is effectively instant at these sizes. What remains is the processing, which for most operations is a fraction of a second per page.
This is also why the tool behaves the same on a poor connection. Once the page has loaded, network speed stops being a factor — a job on tethered mobile data runs at exactly the same speed as one on a wired connection.
How PDF to PNG works
Pages are rendered with pdf.js onto an HTML canvas at the scale you chose, where a scale of 1 equals the PDF's native 72 dpi. The canvas is pre-filled with white before rendering so that transparent regions produce white rather than black or undefined pixels.
The canvas is then encoded to PNG, which stores the pixel data losslessly. Each canvas is discarded immediately after encoding so that memory does not accumulate across a long document.
Privacy
Your files are not uploaded. When you add a PDF file, your browser reads it from your device into the memory of the tab you are looking at, and the pdf to png operation runs there using your own processor. Nothing is transmitted to any server at any point.
That means there is no file for anyone to store, no retention policy to trust, and no deletion schedule to take on faith. The document exists only in the memory of an open browser tab, and it is released the moment you close it, reload the page, or press start over.
The site uses standard anonymous analytics to count page views and how often each tool is used. Those events record which tool ran and whether it succeeded — never a file name, never file contents, and never anything that could identify a document or the person processing it.
No account is required, so no personal information is collected. There is no profile, no history and nothing tied to an identity, because no identity was ever created.
Security
The strongest security property this tool has is structural: your file never travels anywhere, so there is no transmission to intercept and no server-side copy to breach. This is not a policy that could change — it is a consequence of where the code runs.
You can verify it in about thirty seconds. Open your browser's developer tools with F12, select the Network tab, and use the tool. You will see the page's scripts load — including the PDF libraries, which are fetched on demand the first time a tool runs — and then nothing further. No request carrying your document is ever made.
For a stronger test, disconnect from the network once the page has loaded. The tool will keep working exactly as before, which is only possible because nothing is being sent.
Uploaded files are validated in the browser before anything runs: the extension must match what the tool accepts, the file must not be empty, and it must be within the size limit. Malformed documents produce a clear error and a retry option rather than a silent failure.
What this tool does not do
Being clear about limits is more useful than a feature list that quietly omits them. Output is always opaque with a white background, produced whole-page at a time, and text in the resulting images is no longer selectable.

Frequently asked questions
- How long does it actually take?
- For most operations, well under a second per page. Anything involving re-rendering pages — compression and image conversion — is slower, in the region of a few tenths of a second per page on a modern laptop. Long documents show live progress so you always know where you are.
- Why is it faster than other online tools?
- Because it skips the upload, the queue and the download of the result. Those three stages usually account for most of the wall-clock time on a conventional online tool, and none of them exist here.
- Does a slow internet connection make it slower?
- Only for loading the page itself. Once the tool is open, processing happens on your device and your connection speed is irrelevant to how long the job takes.
- Should I choose PNG or JPG?
- PNG for anything with text, line art, diagrams or flat colour, because it stays sharp. JPG for photographic content and whenever file size matters more than perfect edges. A page of body text will usually look noticeably better as a PNG.
- Why are PNG files so much larger than JPGs?
- PNG is lossless — it reproduces every pixel exactly, whereas JPEG achieves its small sizes by discarding detail the eye is unlikely to miss. For a page of text the difference can be several times the file size, in exchange for noticeably cleaner text.
- Will the PNG have a transparent background?
- No. Pages are rendered onto a white background so the output is consistent and predictable across viewers and editors.
- Can I convert a specific page only?
- The whole document is converted, but each page is listed separately so you can download just the ones you want. To convert a subset only, split the PDF first.
- Is there a page limit?
- There is no fixed limit, but every page is rendered and held as an image, so very long documents use a lot of memory. For documents over a few hundred pages, split first and convert in sections.
